The Rig season 2 star Iain Glen has teased that our protagonists will have to face an “awful conflict” in the supernatural drama’s sophomore run.
The Game of Thrones and Delicious actor stars as one of the survivors of the oil rig Kinloch Bravo, which was beset by strange phenomena and eventually a tsunami. Although they managed to escape, our protagonists can’t simply return to their normal lives.
In an interview with Radio Times, Glen explained that his character Magnus, as well as Emily Hampshire and Martin Compston‘s characters Rose and Fulmer, are faced with a “terrible predicament” by dodgy energy company Pictor.
“You can sign this agreement, we’ll give you lots of money and you can try and find your loved ones who may not be with us anymore, or you can stay here and not do that,” Glen said of the one-sided offer made to them.
While the surviving crew members are now on the same page as to who their enemy is, Pictor still have the upper hand, and wants to send them into an “alien” environment on an investigation/rescue mission/corporate cover-up. It’s a dramatic scenario that Glen thinks we don’t get to see very often.
“David [Macpherson] just writes so well in getting to the heart of people’s awful conflict… he’s very good at bringing proper consequence,” the actor concluded.
“Sometimes in disaster movies, there don’t seem to be any real consequences – the goodies survive and let’s forget everyone who died in the meantime because our heroes are still alive.”
The Rig season 2 will launch on Prime Video on January 2, 2025.
