The Officers’ Association of the Commission has commended the Constitutional Reform Commission for recommending the National Human Rights Commission to be granted the status of a constitutional institution.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Officers’ Association President Kazi Arfan Ashiq and Secretary General M Rabiul Islam congratulated the initiative.
The press release said that if the National Human Rights Commission becomes a constitutional institution, the recommendations of the National Human Rights Commission will gain more importance in all sectors, including various government departments and organizations. They also believe that the implementation rate of the Commission’s recommendations will also increase.
The association expressed hope in the press release that the Commission will be able to play a more effective role in fulfilling the expectations of the people in protecting human rights. Since the establishment, responsibilities and nature of work of a constitutional institution are determined by the constitution, the effectiveness and accountability of an organization increases if it gets the status of a constitutional institution.
The Officers’ Association also believes that transforming the National Human Rights Commission into a constitutional institution will reflect the full will of the state to implement its commitment to protecting human rights. They have described this recommendation as very important and timely.
They believe that all quarters will make efforts to implement the recommendation to give the National Human Rights Commission the status of a constitutional institution.
