Golam Mowla, Shibchar (Madaripur):: Residents of Char Janajat Union in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur formed a human chain and staged a protest rally demanding that the permanent office of the Union Parishad be established in Ward No. 9.
The programme was held on Sunday afternoon (April 12) at Hira Kha Bazar in Ward No. 9, where hundreds of men and women joined carrying banners, festoons and placards.
Participants said the Union Parishad office should be located in a place that is easily accessible for people from all areas of the union. According to them, Ward No. 9 is the most suitable location as it lies in a comparatively central position.
Speakers at the rally alleged that the current temporary office and some other proposed locations are inconvenient for many residents due to distance and poor communication. As a result, people often face hardship while seeking public services.
They said establishing the permanent office in Ward No. 9 would make administrative services more efficient and ensure easier access to education, healthcare and civic facilities for local residents.
The protesters also claimed that Ward No. 9 has long been neglected in terms of development. They urged the authorities to consider public interest and balanced development while making the final decision.
After the peaceful programme, the residents warned that they would announce tougher movements in the future if their demand was ignored.
They also sought the urgent intervention of the Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shibchar.
It is worth mentioning that due to river erosion and geographical changes, discussions regarding the administrative infrastructure and location of the Char Janajat Union office have continued for a long time.
Among others present at the programme were Enamul Haque Noor Molla, Nur Alam Haladar, Mohammad Arif Molla, Md. Ratan Kha, Jasim Molla, Rakib Khan, Bacchu Khan, Mohammad Jalil, Rasel Molla, Matlab Sheikh and Borhan Khan.
