Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) announced that since there was no candidate in the bi-annual elections, Anwarul Islam Kajal has been elected as President, Md. Humayun Kabir as General Secretary and Hasanur Rahman Tanzir as Treasurer. Yesterday at 8 pm, the election management committee announced the candidates for 11 posts. Those elected to the remaining posts are Vice President Shamim Ashraf Shelley and Bimal Saha. On the same day, the Journalist Union issued a notice calling a special general council meeting on June 3 at 1 p.m.
On June 3, a special general council meeting was held in Alhaj Liaquat Ali Auditorium at the press club at 1 pm under the chairmanship of the president of the organization Farooq Ahmed. 126 members attended the meeting and gave their opinion. Most of the members said that since the court has not given any order and the term of the executive council has expired, there should be an early election. An ad hoc committee of 5 members was formed unanimously in the meeting by convening the former president of the organization Sheikh Abu Hasan. In consultation with the ad hoc committee, former general secretary Mallik Sudhanshu was convened and a three-member election management committee was formed. The election management committee announced the date of election on 22 June 2024. According to the announced schedule, the final candidate list was released today on June 13. All were elected unopposed as there were no contesting candidates.
