After several hours of efforts, the police brought the situation under control. It is known that around 2.30 pm the quota reform activists gathered in front of the Government Boys High School. Later, when they marched towards the intersection of the city with a procession, the BCL leaders and activists chased the agitators from the other side. At that time, when excitement arose between both sides, the police came and tried to control both sides. Soon after, the government boys high school from different parts of the city started gathering in the big ground with the agitators. At that time, the police came and tried to calm down the protesters. The agitators marched out of the ground and tried to march in front of the Government Boys High School chanting various slogans. The police stopped them. But they broke the police barricade and proceeded towards the intersection. Once again the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League chased from the intersection and the procession dispersed and took place at different places. A section of the agitators took a stand in front of the Primary Training Institute and started protesting by blocking the road and setting fire. Another section took up positions in various parts of the city, including in front of the Government Boys High School. At this time, traffic and shops on the road from the intersection to the old bus stand are closed for at least 3 hours. In case of agitation between both sides, the police tried to bring the situation under control by throwing sound grenades, tear cells, gas guns etc. In the clash, 50 people were injured on both sides and police personnel were also injured. Later around 6 pm Sadar police station officer-in-charge ABM Feroze Wahid and Executive Magistrate led the protestors out of the Government Boys High School and sent them home. Meanwhile, former student leader district Awami League publicity secretary Mostafizur Rahman Ripon tried to convince the quota agitators at the Government Boys High School grounds to control the situation, but they got agitated. At one point, the school authorities removed Mostafizur Rahman Ripon and kept him in the office. Superintendent of Police Uttam Prasad Pathak said that immediately after the incident, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Although the traffic was stopped for a while, the traffic returned to normal after 6:30 pm. Subject to investigation, necessary action will be taken in this regard later.
