Ayub Ali, Mymensingh- Mymensingh RAB-14, Mymensingh City Corporation and various locations in the district have developed an exploratory case study of road peddling. From the study, it is known that in Mymensingh, Named chada is collected from three-wheelers in the name of various organizations at the rate of four hundred taka at night. This money goes into the pockets of a class of powerfull middlemen. From the study, it is known that this four hundred taka chadabazi is having a negative effect on the service seeking passenger, driver and owner. Due to this, the owner and driver are forced to increase the fare and increase the suffering of the passengers. On the other hand, many drivers have to return home empty-handed while paying for the chada.
As a result, the driver’s family created a humanitarian . RAB case studies and field investigations have revealed a grim picture of road peddling. According to Mymensingh BRT, there are 5,000 registered three-wheelers in the district. According to the owners’ association, there are about 12,000 three-wheelers plying on the highway. According to owners’ associations, there are 4,000 three-wheelers registered in the district, while the rest are unregistered. Apart from this, the remaining 1,000 three-wheelers registered in Mymensingh belong to other districts. This information has been confirmed by the Mymensingh Road Transport Authority and the Three Wheeler Owners Association. Although there are about fifteen thousand three-wheelers in the district, according to those concerned.
According to the accounts of three-wheeler owners association, 20 taka per day in the name of owner association, 10 taka in the name of labor organization and 30 taka per day are collected from a three-wheeler. But the participants (drivers) said that 45 to 400 taka is being collected daily from this vehicle. Three-wheeler owner association president Rakibul Islam Shaheen and BRTA Mymensingh circle assistant director ASM Wazed Hossain confirmed this.
According to the recognized accounts of the owners’ association, 3 lakh 60 thousend takas are collected daily as owner-labourer 30 takas. If calculated for 12,000, the monthly income is about 10 crores and 80 lakhs. 15000 cars per year, the cost increases to Tk 12 crore 96 lakhs. This huge amount of money has gone into the pockets of the owners and workers from the three-wheelers plying on the roads and highways in Mymensingh district.
On the other hand, in the same way, 80 taka chada is collected from trucks carrying cows, vegetables and goods. There are about two thousand trucks in the district. One lakh sixty thousand taka per day, four lakh 70 thousand taka per month and about 57 crore 60 lakh taka per year are collected from these trucks. Several reports have been circulated in various media about the lifting of chadas on Mymensingh roads and highways. But the chada did not stop. Vehicles are stopped on the roads and highways of the district.
This time, the law and order forces have entered the field. Especially Mymensingh RAB-14, has come to the field this time with various strategies to stop this illegal scam. Already, RAB-14, as a model intelligence unit, has identified 1Hundread and 5 chadabazas and various spots of chada collection in the Mymensingh City Corporation area, created profiles with pictures and videos of all chadabazis and their supporters. So far, 20 street peddlers have been arrested. According to their confessions, profiles of the rest of the chadabazas have also been created with a list, videos and still images.
RAB-14, CO Md Alimuzzaman said that efforts are being made to bring down the roads and highways to zero level as soon as possible. He also said that if the city corporation model is successful, then the campaign will continue to catch open chadabajas in all police stations in the district and measures will be taken to treat these criminals as criminals. For this, the RAB commander requested the cooperation of all concerned including journalists.
