Neon dulal , Lalmonirhat – A case has been registered after 14 months in the case of vandalism and looting of BNP leader and UP chairman’s house and farm in Lalmonirhat. Police arrested three people in that case and sent them to jail.
Chairman of Mahendranagar Union Parishad of Sadar Upazila, BNP president Abdul Majid Mondal filed the case against 60 to 70 unidentified people including a journalist on November 2.
The three arrested are Mahendranagar Union Jubo League president Alamgir Badsha, Awami League supporter Ratan Mia of Chinipara village of that union and Momidul Islam, a Labor League worker from Pashwarti Mostafi area.
It is mentioned in the statement of the case that Mahendranagar Union Awami League President Tahmidul Islam Biplab, the former panel chairman of Zilla Parishad, used to send people to the Union Parishad demanding 40 percent share of the VGF TR Kabikha project which was officially allocated to Mahendranagar Union Parishad. People of Awami League including Biplab got angry and planned to attack and loot the house of the chairman. On the order of the revolution, the accused broke the gate of UP chairman BNP leader Abdul Majid Mandal’s house on the afternoon of September 23 and took the chairman’s wife Anjuman Ara Begum hostage at gunpoint and looted the house and looted the goods in two pickup vans. 15 lakhs in cash and around 29 lakhs 65 thousand goods including gold ornaments were looted.
Later, the plaintiff was asked to return the looted goods. If they did not agree to this, two days later, on the night of September 8, Chairman Abdul Majid again attacked Mahi Poultry Farm of Mandal and looted 5,000 chickens and goods worth Tk 50,000,000. The looters did not stop there. Four days later, on September 12, the accused looted fish worth around 780,000 taka by throwing nets in the two-acre pond next to the chairman’s house.
The accused looted about 87 lakh 75 thousand rupees from UP Chairman Abdul Majeed’s house, farm and fish project in three stages. UP Chairman Abdul Majeed filed a case against 60 to 70 unidentified people including 57 names of 57 people led by Awami League leader Tahmidul Islam Biplab, about 14 months after the incident. Accused number 49 in this case is Russell Haque, member of press club Lalmonirhat, correspondent of our daily Lalmonirhat newspaper and executive editor of online news portal “Lalmonirhat”. Besides, all the accused are involved in Awami League politics.
In that case, the Sadar police station conducted a raid on the night of November 2 and arrested two persons named and one person who is not named and sent them to jail.
Russell Haque, the accused journalist in that case, said that I do not know anything about the incident in which I have been accused. I have been accused in this case to harass me. He demanded a fair investigation.
The former president of Press Club Lalmonirhat Mofakharul Islam Majnu said that if a journalist is harassed, the consequences can be dire. In whose name filing cases at will is nothing but harassment. We strongly condemn and protest against it.
Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC Abdul Quader said that the complaint filed in connection with the attack and looting of UP Chairman Abdul Majeed’s house, farm and fish project has been registered as a regular case. Three people have been arrested in this case and sent to jail.
