Smile 2 has confirmed its US streaming release date.
The sequel to the 2022 horror film follows Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a pop star who begins to experience a series of increasingly disturbing events as she prepares to embark on a global tour.
Following its release in cinemas in October, it’s now been confirmed that the film will be available to stream on Paramount+ in the US from Tuesday, December 3. The film won’t be available to stream in the UK until sometime next year.
If you’re in the US, you can also buy or rent Smile 2 from Prime Video, iTunes and other participating digital retailers.
UK viewers can pre-order the film from Prime Video and iTunes to be able to watch it as soon as it’s released digitally.
Directed and written by Parker Finn, the film also stars Out of My Mind‘s Rosemarie DeWitt, The White Lotus star Lukas Gage, Agatha All Along‘s Miles Gutierrez-Riley and House actor Peter Jacobson.
Ray Nicholson, Dylan Gelula and Raúl Castillo round out the cast, as well as Kyle Gallner, who reprises his role as Joel from the first film.
Smile 2 currently sits at an impressive 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes – a slightly higher rating than the first film, which has a 79% score.
However, the sequel wasn’t a bigger hit at the box office. The first movie raked in $217.4 million worldwide, while Smile 2 has only taken $131.9 million by comparison.
Smile notably followed Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who, after witnessing the suicide of a patient, becomes overwhelmed with disturbing visions that lead her to question her sanity.
At the end of the film, Rose visits her childhood home, where it’s revealed that she has been hallucinating. After the ‘smile’ curse takes its true form and crawls inside her, Rose is found setting herself ablaze.
Speaking about the grim ending, Bacon previously told Variety: “I don’t think I would have done it if it had a happy ending. That would have been so unsatisfying to me. It was so dark. For it to just be okay would’ve been sad.”
Smile 2 starts streaming on Paramount+ in the US from December 3. A streaming release date has yet to be confirmed in the UK.
