Chalanbeel – Prices of daily necessities soar in Chalanbeel markets on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. Before the start of the fast, the prices of all kinds of daily necessities are increasing day by day. The holy month of Ramadan, the month of fasting, has started from March 2, subject to the sighting of the moon. The prices of daily necessities have started increasing on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, the prices of daily necessities including raw vegetables, fish, boiler chicken, soybean oil, all kinds of spices, beef, dates and other items are increasing in various markets of the 9 Upazilas of Chalanbeel, Tarash, Ullapara, Shahjadpur, Faridpur, Bhangura, Chatmohar, Gurudaspur, Singra and Atrai.

As a result, the pressure on people with limited and low incomes is increasing. The common people are worried that the prices of daily necessities are increasing due to the beginning of the month of Ramadan. The hardworking common people of the Beel area are in trouble due to such a sudden increase in prices. The common people of Chalanbeel are deeply angry and said that shopkeepers are increasing the prices of daily necessities as they wish because the officials of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection do not monitor the market regularly.

Meanwhile, retailers say that the prices have increased in the wholesale market, so they are forced to sell their products at higher prices.

A visit to the various markets in Chalanbeel has shown that in a span of a week, the price of raw vegetables has increased by 20 taka per kg, lemon by 80 taka per kg, cucumber and khira by 10 taka per kg, boiler chicken by 10 taka per kg, beef by 50 taka per kg, soybean oil by 25-30 taka per liter, white cardamom by 1600 taka per kg, large black cardamom by 1000 taka per kg, all types of fish have increased by an average of 20 to 25 taka per kg, dates by 70 to 200 taka per kg, sugar and sweets by 10 taka per kg, all types of rice by 5 to 7 taka.

Apart from this, the prices of other daily necessities have remained unchanged. Md. Firoz Ahmed Khan, a retail trader at Tarash Bazar in Chalanbeel, told this reporter that the prices of many daily necessities have increased due to the start of Ramadan. We are selling the goods at higher prices because we bought them at higher prices. Md. Abdul Hakim, an assistant professor at Tarash Women’s Degree College, and Md. Abdul Khan, a disabled person, said that the prices of everything are increasing on the eve of the start of Ramadan. Where will we go as people with limited incomes? Our income has not increased. He also said that the officials of the Department of Consumer Rights Protection will have to strictly monitor the market.

They will have to think about the common people. If the market situation is like this with the start of Ramadan, what will happen during the entire month of Ramadan? He expressed his strong hope that it needs to be reined in.

When contacted directly with Tarash Upazila Enforcement Officer Switching Mong Marma in this regard, he very sincerely said that the market will be monitored regularly by contacting the officials of the Department of Consumer Rights and necessary measures will be taken, he assured this reporter.
