Lalmonirhat :: There have been allegations of encroachment on the land of the City College in Thanapara and adjacent to Goshala Bazar in Lalmonirhat city. Locals say that the public is suffering because the ongoing road is not completed as per the estimate, subject to the use of government land.
A press conference was held on Sunday (May 1) morning at the City College grounds in Thanapara, Lalmonirhat, demanding the completion of the ongoing road titled “3 m. × 190 m. from Goshala Bazar Meat Market to City College” as per the estimate, subject to the use of government land.
At the press conference to mark the completion of the road work, agriculturist Alok Adhikari read out a written statement on behalf of the locals. Teacher Mr. Satya Ranjan Pal, businessman Mr. Dilip Adhikari, banker Anup Adhikari Kanak, player Tipu Sultan and others were present at the time.
It is known from the written statement of the press conference that after independence, this is the first time that the municipality has started the work of the 3m x 190m road in the City College area under the LGCRRP with such a large budget of 2.6 million taka financed by the World Bank in the fiscal year 2023-2024. Despite having record government roads and government land, the construction of the road of public importance has been stopped for about 6 months. Despite repeatedly urging the authorities in various ways, we, the locals, are angry and disappointed that no administrative action has been taken for mysterious reasons. If the government allocated money is not implemented by this June, there is considerable doubt whether the work will be possible in the future. We are shocked by such lack of goodwill by the authorities. It is demanded that the people of the area do not suffer during the upcoming monsoon season and that the money allocated for this road of public importance is not returned in the public interest. However, the statement of Lalmonirhat Municipality Executive Engineer Md. Ayub Ali was not known in this regard.
On the same day at 12 noon, a human chain was organized by players, students and youth from Wards 7, 8 and 9 of Lalmonirhat Municipality at the City College ground to protect the City College ground. They said that the ground is being occupied day by day. As a result, the playing environment in the ground has been destroyed. The ground should be freed from occupation and the playing environment should be restored. They said that if the road is built according to the proposed design, all citizens will be able to enjoy the facilities.
