Akkelpur :: A human chain program has been held in Akkelpur, Joypurhat, to protest the long-standing doctor crisis and poor quality healthcare. The human chain was formed in front of the main gate of the Upazila Health Complex at 11 am on Monday under the banner “Akkelpurbasi”.
BNP leader Rafiqul Islam Chapal, District Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Arman Hossain Kanon, Thana Chhatra Dal branch member secretary Tanvir Niaz, Municipal Chhatra Dal member secretary Nafiz Newaz Ramim, CPB Thana General Secretary Hasan Sardar, Municipal Jamaat secretary Ripon Hossain, student representatives Ibrahim Samrat, Rabiul Islam.
The participants in the human chain complained that ordinary patients are suffering every day due to the lack of adequate doctors in the hospital for a long time. Even most of the time, patients have to go to Joypurhat or Bogra to get treatment. Nurses constantly misbehave with patients.
The speakers said that healthcare is the fundamental right of the people. However, this important hospital at the upazila level has been facing a severe shortage of doctors for a long time. Due to this, the suffering of the people has reached its peak.
The speakers in the human chain demanded immediate resolution of the shortage of doctors, improvement of the quality of healthcare, adequate supply of medicines and transparency in hospital management.
Local dignitaries, businessmen, students and youth, including people from different classes and professions, participated at this time.
According to the Upazila Health Complex office, 4 doctors are working against 26 doctors. No solution has been found despite sending letters to the health department for a long time. The latest letter was sent to various departments yesterday too, asking for doctors. An average of 400 to 500 patients receive treatment from this hospital every day.
Upazila Health and Public Health Officer Dr. Shafi Mahmud confirmed the shortage of doctors.
