Lalmonirhat :: Two trains collided at the BDR gate of Lalmonirhat Railway Station area, causing two MT wrecker coaches of the intercity ‘Lalmonirhat Express’ to overturn.
The accident occurred at the BDR Gate rail crossing in the city on Monday, July 28. However, no casualties were reported.
Train services on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari route have been suspended due to the accident. On the other hand, direct road communication between the city’s BDR Gate and Puran Bazar has also been suspended.
Railway authorities and eyewitnesses said that local train 66 from Burimari to Parbatipur was entering Lalmonirhat railway station at noon. At that time, the Lalmoni Express train was being diverted to another railway line in the BDR Gate rail crossing area. At that moment, the local train forcefully pushed the Lalmoni Express. This caused two coaches of the express to overturn. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the accident. Rescue work is underway.
Railway DME Loco Sajedur Hasan Nirjhar said, “We will investigate the cause of the accident and inform you. Since the road is closed for the time being, we are working to alleviate the public suffering.” When asked about the damage estimate, he said, “Two coaches and one engine have been damaged. However, the extent of the damage will be known after investigation.”
Lalmonirhat Divisional Railway Manager Abu Hena Mostafa Alam said the accident may have occurred due to faulty signals. However, the real mystery will be revealed only after the investigation.
