A major drive against banned polythene was carried out in Narayanganj by RAB. RAB-11, the Department of Environment, and the District Administration on Wednesday.
participated in the operation, which targeted four factories. A total of 7 tons of polythene and 78 sacks of PP granules were seized. Fines amounting to Tk 4 lakh were imposed, and electricity connections to the factories were disconnected. In a separate operation in Mymensingh, approximately 2 tons of polythene were seized by RAB.
Additionally, on the night of 13 August, drives were conducted in several areas of Dhaka. The Department of Environment, Bangladesh Army, RAB-10, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police took part in the operation. Searches were conducted in Imamganj, Swarighat, and various locations in Lalbagh. From Kamalbagh in the Chawkbazar area, about 200 kg of polythene was seized from a van.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Barishal on “Stopping the Use of Polythene and Single-Use Plastics.” Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed attended the meeting as the chief guest and stated that, alongside the government, business communities and civil society must come forward to combat polythene, which poses a serious threat to the environment, biodiversity, and public health.
