COP30 Presidency Calls on Global Businesses to Lead the Climate Transition

The upcoming Presidency of COP30 has issued its seventh letter to the global community, emphasizing the crucial involvement of the private sector in advancing climate action and transforming the economy. This letter acts as an urgent appeal directed toward business leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs to actively participate in COP30, not merely as a diplomatic event but as a critical moment to drive tangible climate solutions and foster a climate-aligned economy.

The letter, authored by Corrêa do Lago, highlights that the ongoing climate transition is significantly influencing worldwide markets, investment directions, and innovation trajectories, presenting a major economic opportunity. It states that the private sector’s agility, scale, and innovative capacity uniquely position it to lead this transformation. Industries including renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, digital infrastructure, and sustainable finance are urged to take early alignment to secure leadership and prosperity in this pivotal decade.

Corrêa do Lago stressed, “The time to act with urgency is now,” pointing out that while the private sector has made notable progress, it must intensify its engagement to realize exponential transformation. The letter calls on companies to develop credible transition plans, evaluate climate risks, and collaborate constructively with governments and investors on long-term, climate-focused strategies.

In preparation for the submission of 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the COP30 Presidency has worked to ensure that these commitments serve as forward-thinking tools that foster development and provide certainty to the private sector, bridging political negotiations with real-world implementation and investment.

To facilitate these efforts, the COP30 Presidency will launch an enhanced Action Agenda comprised of 30 key objectives across six thematic areas: energy transition, food systems, cities, biodiversity, social development, and enabling frameworks such as finance and digital infrastructure. The agenda will be supported by Activation Groups and Solution Acceleration Plans aimed at expanding collaboration, scaling initiatives, and maintaining transparency through measurable outcomes.

As COP30 is set to convene in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025, the Presidency emphasizes trust-building, transparency, and broad opportunity creation across sectors. It extends an open invitation to the business community to engage in formal negotiations and contribute to the Action Agenda via various platforms, high-level dialogues, and solution showcases.
