Golam Mowla, Shibchar, Madaripur : In Shibchar, Madaripur, three Islamist political parties—Khelafat Majlis, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami—held separate protest processions and street rallies on Friday (September 26), demanding the implementation of the July Charter and the proportional representation (PR) electoral system. The programs were organized at different locations, including the municipal bus terminal, the central Jame Mosque premises, and the Press Club square, as part of their centrally declared movement.
The first program began at 10:00 am with Khelafat Majlis at the municipal bus terminal. Addressing the rally after the procession, Shibchar Upazila president and Madaripur-1 constituency candidate Maulana Shah Alam Talukdar said, “The Islamic governance system is essential for restructuring this country. Small political parties must be given the opportunity to enter parliament through the PR system, which must be implemented without delay.” He described Allama Mamunul Haque as a symbol of uncompromising struggle and called upon people to join Khelafat Majlis.
At 3:00 pm, Islami Andolon Bangladesh organized a rally at the central Jame Mosque square following their procession. Party candidate Maulana Akram Hossain declared, “No election will be allowed in this country without legal recognition of the July Revolution and the introduction of the PR system.” Party president Hafiz Jafar Ahmed added that elections must be held based on the July Charter, with a guarantee of free and fair voting, and called for a ban on the politics of the 14-party alliance and Jatiya Party.
Later, at 5:00 pm, Jamaat-e-Islami’s upazila branch held a procession and rally at the Press Club square. Upazila Ameer and Madaripur-1 candidate Maulana Sarwar Hossain Mridha accused the current government of fascist behavior, mass killings, and corruption. He warned, “If our demands are not fulfilled, a new chapter will be written in Bangladesh under the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami.”
All three parties highlighted five common demands during their programs:
1. Implementation of the July Charter.
2. Trial for the July 24 massacre and the Shapla Square incident.
3. Ban on the politics of the 14-party alliance and agents of hegemonic India.
4. Ensuring a level playing field for free and fair elections.
5. Implementation of the proportional representation (PR) system in national elections.
Each program concluded with prayers and supplications
