Kushtia Correspondent:: An extortionist named Rajib Islam (32) was arrested by the local people in Mirpur, Kushtia, while demanding extortion by holding a toy pistol to the chest of a sand trader and handed over to the police.
The incident took place on Monday evening in the Talbaria Balurghat area of the upazila. The arrested extortionist is the son of Yusuf Ali of Talbaria village. According to police and victim sources, on October 2, Rajib demanded extortion of Tk 20,000 at the establishment of sand trader Nasir at Talbaria Bali Ghat on the banks of the Padma River under Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. Later, on Monday afternoon, October 6, 4-5 people led by Rajib surrounded the victim Nasir alone in Talbaria village. At that time, Rajib took out the pistol in his waist and started intimidating Nasir. Later, when Abu Sayeed, who was next to Nasir, protested the incident, Rajib threatened to shoot Abu Sayeed too. Later, the local crowd caught hold of Rajib, beat him severely and handed him over to the local police camp. Later, the police came and examined the pistol in Rajib’s hand and found that it was a toy pistol. Later, the victim, sand trader Nasir, filed a case with Mirpur Police Station in this incident. In this regard, Mirpur Police Station OC Mominul Islam said, on Monday, a person was arrested with a toy pistol while extorting money from the public in Talbaria. The victim filed a case with Mirpur Police Station in this incident. On Tuesday, the accused was sent to the learned court.
