United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a message marking World Post Day 2025, celebrating the vital contributions of the world’s 4.6 million postal workers who connect people and communities across the globe.
This year’s theme, “Post for People: Local Service. Global Reach,” highlights the essential role of postal services in linking local communities to the wider world. The Secretary-General emphasized that the theme pays tribute to “the people behind the service,” noting that when individuals work together, “their impact can become truly global.”
Guterres praised the coordination of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which enables postal workers to form a vast network that delivers more than just mail — providing essential services, opportunities, and trust. He noted that postal services reach remote areas, connect cities and villages, and bridge the rural-urban divide, helping create “a world that is within everyone’s reach.”
“Post is a service by people, for people,” the Secretary-General said, expressing gratitude to postal workers worldwide. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting a strong, sustainable, and inclusive postal service for communities everywhere.
