The population census in Cannes will take place from January 15 to February 21, 2026, municipal authorities announced. As part of France’s national census system, the survey is conducted every year in Cannes, covering a different sample of residents annually.
Households selected for this year’s census will first receive an official notification letter from the City Hall. This will be followed by a visit from an authorized census officer, who will present a professional identification card. Residents will then be given an information notice containing the necessary details to complete the census questionnaire online. A paper questionnaire will be provided for those who are unable to respond via the internet.
The population census is a mandatory public service survey aimed at determining the number of people living in France and establishing the official population figures for each municipality. The data collected plays a crucial role in calculating state financial allocations to local governments and in assessing the socio-economic profile of the area to help anticipate future public infrastructure and service needs.
Each year, approximately 8 percent of the city’s housing units are selected through a random draw for participation, in partnership with the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE).
Authorities emphasized that all responses are strictly confidential and will be transmitted only to INSEE to produce anonymous statistical data, in accordance with laws protecting personal privacy. Census officers are bound by professional secrecy. The census process is entirely free of charge, and residents are advised to ignore any websites or requests demanding payment related to the census.
