Md. Sanaullah Riyad, Barguna:: A young man named Md. Ibrahim Khalil (30) tried to enter the Barguna Deputy Commissioner’s office and attack him. Later, when the attacker quickly tried to stop the young man, an office official named Zahirul Islam, who works in the secret branch of the DC, attacked him. Zahirul was injured.
The incident took place at the Barguna Deputy Commissioner’s office around 10:30 am on Sunday (January 25).
However, as Deputy Commissioner Taslima Akhter was not in the office at that time, her office was empty. The police immediately arrested the attacker in this incident. In addition, security has been tightened at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The attacker, Md. Ibrahim Khalil, is a resident of Banshbunia area of Ward No. 8 of Sadar Union of Barguna Sadar Upazila. Yunus Dafadar’s son.
According to district administration sources, Deputy Commissioner Taslima Akhter went to Taltoli Upazila of Barguna in the morning for office work. Due to this, her office room was empty. Taking this opportunity, the young man named Ibrahim Khalil, who was the attacker, suddenly entered the room secretly with a 14-15 inch sewing range. Later, the CA of the DC’s office, Md. Zahirul Islam, came to know about the matter and went to the room. When Ibrahim asked why he was entering the DC’s room, he hit him with the sewing range he had with him. Later, due to Zahirul’s screams, another officer in charge of the office detained the attacker Ibrahim and informed the higher authorities. The police came and arrested him.
Injured Md. Zahirul Islam said, “I was working in my room. When I came out of there, I saw someone entering DC Sir’s room. Since Sir was not in the office, I went to Sir’s room and saw the attacker inside. Later, when I asked him why he had entered the room, he got angry and attacked me. At that time, he hit me with the sewing machine he had with him and injured me.”
Office Assistant of the Secret Branch of the District Administrator’s Office Md. Jewel Rana said, “I was working in the office in the morning. Later, I was talking to a staff named Aminul outside the room. At that time, I saw a person leaving and wanted to know why he was coming. Later, he told me that he had come to meet DC Sir. At that time, I told him that Sir was not in the office and asked him to come tomorrow. Shortly after he left, Zahirul Sir, the victim of the attack, started calling me. Later, I ran quickly and saw that Zahirul Sir was being attacked. Later, a few of us caught the person and brought him to our room. Later, when we informed the office officials, the police members came and arrested him.
Barguna Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Animesh Biswas said, “This morning at around 10:30 am, a person, approximately 30-35 years old, suddenly entered DC Sir’s room. An unused sewing range was found with him. However, the reason and purpose of his coming is now under investigation. We have handed him over to the police and preparations are underway for a case to take legal action.”
Regarding the law and order situation at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, he said, “Our law enforcement was down there. There were police and Ansar members. Different people come to the office every day. Also, many people come to the public hearing. That’s why the man might have escaped their notice and entered inside. We need to strengthen our law and order situation further and such measures have already been taken. In addition, two or three layers of security are being put in place.”
Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Alim said, “An attacker named Ibrahim Khalil has been arrested. He has now been taken to the Superintendent of Police’s office for questioning.”
