Lalmonirhat :: Govinda Chandra Sarkar held a press conference alleging illegal eviction, attacks and looting of inherited private land in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila.
At a press conference held on Saturday (March 28), he said that on Thursday afternoon, he and his family were forcibly evicted from the property they inherited as the only son of the late Gangamohan Sarkar.
He alleged that Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Manonita Das entered the land along with local people without any legal notice or police. Around 50-60 people, including Mogalhat Union Parishad panel chairman Dulal Hossain and BNP leader Shukuruddin, were present at the time.
He said at the press conference that the people present vandalized his facilities and houses, beat him up, and looted construction materials. He and his children were forced to evacuate.
Regarding the ownership of the land, he claims that his father purchased the land in 1943 and after later partial acquisition and donation, the remaining land is legally in their ownership, where he started building the market.
He also said that the police were not present during the eviction and video recording was prevented. He alleged that about 10,000 bricks, 100 bags of cement and rods worth about 2 lakh taka were looted.
Govinda Chandra Sarkar demanded a proper investigation into the incident, punishment of those involved and return of the land. He also sought the cooperation of the media by drawing the attention of the concerned authorities.
