DIGITAL SPY- Squid Game is officially making the leap to, well, games, as Netflix has announced Squid Game: Unleashed.
The streaming giant shared a trailer for the game, showcasing cartoony yet mostly-normally-proportioned contestants trying to avoid all sorts of hazards, including lava, buses, bottomless pits, and spinning buzz saws.
Each round will start with 32 players competing, before the contestants (quickly) get whittled down. You’ll be able to team up with friends to hopefully give yourself a leg up – until it comes time to betray them, of course.
The title will be available to play through Netflix Games, which is available via Android and iOS/iPadOS. Your usual Netflix subscription allows you to log into the app to download and play the games on offer. The Netflix Games library features nearly 100 titles, including the classic Grand Theft Auto trilogy; beloved indie titles like Hades and Oxenfree; and games based on various Netflix shows, like The Queen’s Gambit and Stranger Things.
Earlier this month, Netflix released a teaser for the hugely anticipated second season of Squid Game the show. It’s set to return at Christmas time, so expect to see more trailers and other promos as we get closer to that date.
A third season of the show is also happening, which has been confirmed to be the final season.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk explained: “Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season 1, returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either.”
Squid Game season 2 premieres on December 26, streaming on Netflix. A third and final season has been confirmed. Squid Game: Unleashed will drop on Netflix Games on iOS/Android soon.
