Free seeds and chemical fertilizers are distributed to small and marginal farmers at Akkelpur in Joypurhat to increase the production of seedling and summer onion crops under the Agricultural Incentive Program in the financial year 2023-24.
On Thursday (June 20) the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department distributed seeds and fertilizers at the Upazila Parishad premises. During this season, 5 kg seeds, 10 kg DAP and 10 kg MOP fertilizer will be distributed free of charge to 1200 small and marginal farmers of the upazila. Among them, 410 farmers of 2 unions of the upazila were given. The rest will be given in phases. These seeds will be sown in about 160 hectares of land. Also, 1 kg of onion seeds, 50 ml of fungicide, 50 ml of insecticide, 20 kg of DAP and 20 kg of MOP fertilizers have been distributed free of charge to 40 farmers of the upazila. These seeds will be sown in about 5.3 hectares of land.

General Secretary Mojibur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md. Imran Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Arafat Sultana Ferdowsi and others.
Mahfuza Sultana, Member of Parliament for reserved women’s seat, said that those who actually own 1 bigha, 10 katha land are farmers. Honorable Prime Minister Jannetri Sheikh Hasina has farmed in Ganabhaban. All season crops are cultivated there. He goes to that farm 2 days a week if not every day. Feed the chicken and fish with your own hands. He always says plant trees and don’t leave an inch of land. Work with your own hands. Prime Minister People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina does not give any concession to agriculture and always plays a special role in agriculture sector.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Imran Hossain said that the government of Bangabandhu’s Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted this agricultural incentive program to expand the cultivation of various high-yielding Aman rice developed by research to increase the production of Aman rice.
