Kushtia:: A rally, discussion meeting and drill on earthquake and fire were held in Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia on the occasion of National Disaster Preparedness Day 2026. The day was celebrated by the Upazila Administration and Disaster Management Department, Mirpur.
An awareness rally was taken out from the Upazila Parishad premises on Tuesday morning. The rally ended at the Upazila Parishad premises after circumambulating important roads of the upazila. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the Upazila Conference Room.
Mirpur Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nazmul Islam presided over the discussion meeting.
The special guests delivered speeches, Mirpur Upazila BNP General Secretary Khandaker Tipu Sultan, Upazila Engineer Zahir Mehedi Hasan, Statistics Officer Ishraq Hossain, Fire Service Station Officer-in-Charge Nasim Reza, Palli Bidyut Samity DGM Ariful Haque, Mirpur Press Club President Marfat Afridi, General Secretary Rasheduzzaman Rimon, Deputy Assistant Jute Officer Rashed Ahmed, JICA Officer Uttam Kumar and officers and employees of various departments and local dignitaries. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mahfuzur Rahman was in charge of the overall supervision of the program.
After the discussion, a drill was held with the participation of all those present on what to do to deal with earthquakes and fires. In this, various aspects of conducting quick rescue operations and awareness during disasters were highlighted.
