The campaign also aimed to reduce the risks and inconvenience associated with counterfeit, torn and damaged banknotes by encouraging people to use secure digital payment methods instead of cash.
The campaign was held on Wednesday morning at the Lalmonirhat Municipality Convention Hall under the directives of Bangladesh Bank’s Rangpur Office. Uttara Bank PLC’s Lalmonirhat branch and the Bankers’ Club, Lalmonirhat jointly organised the event.
A.K.M. Kamruzzaman, Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Rangpur Office, attended the programme as the chief guest, while Md. Mozammel Haque, Deputy General Manager and Regional Head of Uttara Bank PLC’s Bogura Region, presided over the event.
Md. Sohel Rana, Joint Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Rangpur Office; Md. Ohiduzzaman, Deputy General Manager and Zonal Manager of Rupali Bank PLC’s Lalmonirhat Zonal Office; and A.S.M. Mashfiqur Rahman, Zonal Manager of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), Lalmonirhat, attended the event as special guests.
Speakers said the expansion of technology-based digital payment systems can make financial transactions faster, easier and more secure. They said the use of Bangla QR can reduce dependence on cash, while also improving convenience and transparency in transactions.
They further said reducing cash-based transactions could help minimise the risks associated with counterfeit notes and reduce the difficulties faced by customers and traders over torn or damaged banknotes.
The speakers stressed the need to raise awareness among traders and consumers about digital payment systems, particularly Bangla QR, to accelerate the transition towards cashless transactions.
Teachers, students, traders, bankers and representatives of civil society attended the campaign.
The organisers said such awareness campaigns are important for bringing the benefits of digital payment systems to the wider public. They expressed the hope that increased use of Bangla QR among traders and consumers would reduce dependence on cash and expand the scope of fast and secure digital transactions.
The speakers also called for greater adoption of Bangla QR under the “One Country, One QR” concept and urged people to become more familiar with the benefits of digital transactions.
