Md Hasanur Rahman Tanzir, Staff Reporter of The Daily Evening News, is travelling to Turkey to provide on-the-ground coverage of the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), scheduled to be held in Antalya from November 9 to 20, 2026. He will report on high-level negotiations, key policy discussions, global climate commitments and developments shaping the international response to climate change, with particular focus on Bangladesh’s climate priorities and national interests.

Tanzir is expected to depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on the night of November 7. During the conference, he will cover key sessions, high-level discussions, climate finance negotiations, global environmental policies and issues concerning Bangladesh’s national interests.

The conference, organised under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will bring together world leaders, heads of government, environment and climate ministers, policymakers, climate scientists, experts, representatives of international organisations, development partners and journalists from around the world. The World Leaders’ Summit, a key segment of the conference, is scheduled for November 11–12.

COP31 is expected to focus on accelerating global climate action, strengthening climate adaptation and mitigation efforts, expanding climate finance, promoting renewable energy and addressing the growing impacts of climate change. Discussions are also expected to highlight the Loss and Damage Fund, technology transfer, carbon markets, nature-based solutions and the implementation of international climate commitments.

For Bangladesh, one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, the conference carries particular significance. The country is expected to emphasise the need for increased and accessible climate finance, effective support for addressing climate-induced loss and damage, technology transfer and the fulfilment of financial commitments by developed countries.

Bangladesh is facing increasingly severe climate challenges, including coastal salinity, river erosion, cyclones, storm surges, rising sea levels and freshwater shortages. These challenges have particularly serious consequences for coastal communities, livelihoods, agriculture and public health.

The participation of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister and the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change is also expected to draw attention to the country’s climate priorities and its call for stronger international cooperation.

Tanzir has been working in journalism since 2012 and has extensive experience covering national and international affairs. He previously covered the UN Climate Change Conferences COP28, COP29 and COP30. He also reported on the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, and other major international events.

Most recently, he covered the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, reporting on global economic developments and international policy discussions.

His professional coverage includes economy, environment, climate change, health, agriculture, finance and information technology. He has also reported extensively on climate-related challenges affecting Bangladesh’s coastal communities, including salinity intrusion, environmental degradation, water scarcity and climate adaptation initiatives.

At COP31, Tanzir will focus on Bangladesh’s position in international climate negotiations, global climate diplomacy, financial commitments by developed countries, climate adaptation initiatives and key decisions emerging from the conference. He will also cover major sessions, interviews with policymakers and climate experts, and developments relevant to Bangladesh and other climate-vulnerable countries.

His reports and analyses will be published for domestic and international readers through The Daily Evening News.
