M Rezaul Islam, Naogaon:: Manda Police has arrested two people including a syndicate trader of 6200 liters of diesel for illegally stockpiling oil to sell it at higher prices by creating an artificial crisis in Naogaon’s Manda.
At this time, a large amount of diesel was seized.
On Tuesday (April 28) late night in Baidyapur Bazar area of Valine Union of Upazila, they were arrested on the basis of secret information. Police are looking for fugitive Manjurul, the mastermind of the Shahjadpur syndicate business.
The arrested are Ershad Ali (40), a businessman of Chakwabani village and Anwar Hossain (36) of Shaktola area of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
According to the police, they were caught red-handed while unloading diesel from an oil tanker late at night and storing it illegally. At this time, a lorry, about 6,200 liters of diesel stored in five barrels and 55,000 taka in cash were seized from the spot.
However, the driver of the lorry Azmat Ali (54) and his associate Tarek Rahman (23), the owner Manjurul, fled after realizing the presence of the police. Their house is also said to be in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
Detained Anwar Hossain said during initial interrogation that he had brought about 8 thousand liters of oil from Sirajganj depot. Of these, five barrels of oil were sold by the police.
In this regard, Manda police station officer in-charge (OC) Khorshed Alam said, “We have seized 6200 liters of oil. The remaining oil may have been sold elsewhere. The police have filed a case against 4 people as plaintiffs in this incident.
Those arrested have been sent to jail through courts and operations are on to nab the fugitives.
