Lalmonirhat :: Poverty sometimes defeats talent, and sometimes it tries to block the path of talent. However, if the state and society stand by, then even adversity is defeated. One such inspiring story is that of Md. Nasifuzzaman Nasif, a talented student from Lalmonirhat.
With indomitable willpower, hard work and a dream, he secured 316th place in the merit list of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) admission test for the 2025-2026 academic year and got the opportunity to study in one of the best schools in the country. Nasif’s family, relatives and locals are overjoyed at this success of getting admission in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of BUET.
But this joy of success did not last long. Although the doors of higher education were opened, it became difficult to enter those doors due to financial crisis.
Nasif, a resident of Ramakant area of Mahendranagar Union in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila, found it almost impossible for his family to afford the initial expenses of the university. Immediately after his admission to BUET, he was unable to get a seat in the residential hall, which created additional pressure for living and eating expenses in Dhaka. On the other hand, the family could not afford to buy a laptop, which is essential for engineering education. As a result, this talented student was uncertain about his future despite getting the opportunity to study at his dream university.
Seeing no other option, Nasif applied to the District Administrator for assistance in purchasing a laptop and covering the initial expenses of his studies. The Lalmonirhat District Administration took swift action after seriously considering his application and extraordinary talent.
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muh. Rashedul Haque Pradhan handed over a cheque for a financial grant of Tk 20,000 from the Special Fund of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Nasif at a brief ceremony at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday (June 11) afternoon.
At that time, the Deputy Commissioner said, “Brilliant students are the future wealth of the country. The government is implementing various welfare initiatives so that financial crisis does not become an obstacle in the way of fulfilling the dreams of any student.” Those concerned believe that this government assistance will play an important role in buying Nasif a laptop and meeting the necessary expenses of the beginning of his university life.
Local dignitaries and educationists have praised this humanitarian initiative of the district administration. According to them, such support from the state to struggling and talented students like Nasif not only saves the dreams of a student, but also gives the new generation the courage and motivation to move forward in society.
Despite economic hardship, Nasif’s achievement proves that no obstacle is impossible to overcome if one has the courage to dream and the strength of intellect. And when the state stands by the path to realizing that dream, a Nasif can become the pride of the future of Bangladesh.
