Lalmonirhat :: If women and men do not advance equally in society, there will be no balance. Therefore, more importance must be given to women’s education, said Disaster Management and Relief Minister Principal Asadul Habib Dulu.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting and cultural program organized to mark the inauguration of the newly constructed six-storey academic building at Majida Khatun Government Women’s College in Lalmonirhat on Sunday (August 16) morning.
The minister said that in the past, free education was provided up to higher secondary level to promote women’s education. Currently, in addition to making women’s education free up to graduation, stipends have also been provided. He also said that the current government is giving utmost importance to the education sector.
He further said that the overall development of a country is possible only when women and men have equal opportunities for education and development. Therefore, the educational opportunities of girls must be further expanded.
The function was presided over by the college principal, Professor Dilip Kumar Roy, and was attended by the vice-principal of Majida Khatun Government Women’s College, Md. Shariful Islam, executive engineer of the Department of Education Engineering, Lalmonirhat, Md. Golam Mostafa, and the general secretary of the college’s teachers’ council, A. Karim Sadeki Raju, as special guests. Teachers and students of the college and other concerned persons were present at the time.
The newly constructed six-storey academic building was inaugurated at the event. The building was constructed under the ‘Expansion and Development of Science Education Opportunities in Government Colleges’ project at a cost of about 72 million taka.
The project has been implemented by the Department of Educational Engineering, Lalmonirhat, under the initiative of the Ministry of Education. The construction of the new building will create more facilities for the teaching and educational activities of the college students, said the concerned people.
