Md. Sanaullah Riyad, Barguna- “You know that our market monitoring activities are going on at the district and upazila levels. Following that, I have gone out for market monitoring with the police superintendent and other market related officials. We have seen the price of daily products is slowly decreasing. We have found the price of the raw market tolerable. The trend of eggs, which was upward, has reached a tolerable level. At present, the retail price of eggs is 50 taka. We hope that in the next 1-2 weeks, the price of eggs will come to a tolerable level.”
Barguna District Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Alam made this comment during a press briefing after inspecting the daily essential raw product shops in Barguna city on Wednesday (October 23) at the initiative of District Task Force Market Monitoring Committee.
He also said – “Also, we are monitoring the other daily essential items. We hope that if this activity continues and if you (journalists) cooperate, we will soon reach a desired price for the raw product.”
When asked whether the market monitoring activities will continue, the District Commissioner said – “Every day, one market monitoring team will work in each upazila including the district city.”
When asked how the position of the law and order forces will be regarding the creation of traffic jams in the city, Superintendent of Police Md. Ibrahim Khalil, in response to the journalists’ question, said, “Traffic has increased a little because of the laxity of our (police) activities.” Due to which auto rickshaws are entering the main city empty. As a result, traffic jams are created. We have taken the initiative to control it. It cannot be done in one day, so we will gradually bring it under control, so that people can move freely.”
Basically, in Barguna, the district administration has conducted market monitoring as a part of regular market monitoring activities with the aim of keeping all types of commodities within the purchasing power of common people and keeping the market price of daily commodities at a tolerable level by preventing the increase in commodity prices.
During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Alam inspected local haat bazaar, big market, godown and supply trade center and other markets and monitored the price of daily essential products at a reasonable level.
He requested the traders to buy and sell quality food products and keep the price of all types of products at a reasonable level as fixed by the government. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Animesh Biswas of District Administration, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Mozammel Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Abdul Halim, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Naeem-ul Islam Chowdhury, Md. Tariqul Islam , Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Barguna District Assistant Director Bipul Biswas, District Food Safety Officer Md. Elias Mia and related officials were present.
