The duo will appear in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation, with Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, set to produce (via Deadline).
Emily Brontë’s classic novel, which was first published in 1847, tells the story of two families living on the West Yorkshire moors, with the turbulent relationship between Catherine Earnshaw and her foster brother Heathcliff taking centre stage.
The novel has seen several TV and film adaptations, most recently Andrea Arnold’s 2011 movie, which starred The Gentlemen actor Kaya Scodelario and James Howson.
Robbie is on board to star as Catherine in the new film, while Elordi will play Heathcliff. Fennell will write, direct and produce the feature, with production set to begin in the UK next year. Specific plot details are yet to be announced.
Wuthering Heights marks Fennell’s third collaboration with LuckyChap, which Robbie runs with her husband Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.
LuckyChap previously produced Fennell’s 2020 thriller Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan, and last year’s Saltburn – which notably featured Elordi, alongside Barry Keoghan.
Promising Young Woman was nominated for five Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, and won a handful of Critics Choice awards in 2021, while Saltburn was nominated for two Golden Globes and five BAFTA awards.
Following the box-office success of Barbie last year, Robbie will next appear in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, alongside The Batman‘s Colin Farrell.
The fantasy romance is described as an “imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them”. It will land in cinemas in May 2025.
As for Elordi, the actor is currently starring alongside Normal People‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones in a new drama that recently premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Adapted from Shannon Pufahl’s novel of the same name, On Swift Horses centres on newlyweds Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and Lee (played by Will Poulter), who has just returned from the Korean War. Elordi plays Lee’s brother Julius.
