Pre-COP, a critical gathering of global climate leaders, government officials, and stakeholders, will begin on Wednesday, October 10th in Baku, Azerbaijan. Pre-COP provides a valuable opportunity for parties to advance climate negotiations ahead of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November.
The opening ceremony is expected to feature speeches from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, COP29 President-Designate H.E. Mukhtar Babayev, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed, Executive Secretary of UNFCCC Simon Stiell, COP28 President H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber, and Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice Mr Harry Vuels.
