Kushtia – In Mirpur, Kushtia, the Upazila Brick Manufacturers Association has organized a protest rally and submitted a memorandum to not close the kiln.
They held a protest rally at the local football field on Tuesday morning. Upazila Brick Manufacturers Association President Abdul Mannan presided over the meeting, while District Brick Manufacturers Association General Secretary Shahin Ali was the chief guest. Upazila Brick Manufacturers Association Advisor Enamul Haque, General Secretary Saidur Rahman, Vice President Nur Islam, Treasurer Shariful Islam Mukul and others were present at the time.
Later, the leaders of the Brick Manufacturers Association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Advisor through Upazila Executive Officer Bibi Karimunnesa for not closing the brick kiln and the mobile court in the 2024-2025 season. In the memorandum signed by Upazila Brick Manufacturers Association President Abdul Mannan, it was mentioned that about ten thousand workers are working in thirty brick kilns in this upazila. About 50 thousand people earn their living from their income.
During the previous Sheikh Hasina government, a conspiracy was going on to destroy the domestic industry by enacting the black laws of 2013 and 2019. In such a situation, if the brick kilns are closed, the brick kiln owners will be financially bankrupt with bank loans. On the other hand, the workers will live helplessly with their families and relatives in poverty. If the brick kilns are closed according to the black law of 2013, all government and private development works in the country will be stopped. At the same time, there will be an adverse impact on the country’s economy.
They strongly demanded that the black laws of the previous government be repealed without closing the brick kilns, including running any mobile courts during the current season. Otherwise, the brick kiln owners and workers will be forced to launch strict programs like movements to save their wealth and lives.
The matter was kindly brought to the notice of the Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Affairs, Advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, and the President and General Secretary of the Press Club for taking necessary action.
